Obituary

Prominent and beloved East Side community member, Richard E. Dicks, 79, passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 in Des Moines. Born March 30, 1934 in Albia, Iowa, to Fred and Hettie (Henderson) Dicks, Richard is survived by his "sweetheart" and wife of 62 years, Alice L. Dicks.

He lived most of his life in Des Moines, building a successful construction company, Grandview Cabinet, Inc. A member of Living Hope Community Church, Richard taught bible study and was a passionate and faithful family man. The ultimate sports fan, Richard volunteered for Grandview Little League for more than 45 years coaching and leading the league. He also enjoyed country music, hunting and fishing.

He's also survived by his children: Dianna (Ed) Wieslander of Mitchellville, Steve (Tina) Dicks of Clive, Dennis M. (Cindy) Dicks of Des Moines, David (Tina) Dicks of Bondurant, Jeremy (Nickelle) Dicks of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Gladys Ocker of Bagley. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Merle, Walter, Gerald, Ernest and Tom; sisters: Velma Dicks, Ellen Lindamood and Pauline Powers.

The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 18 (5-8 p.m.) at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home, with funeral services at the same location on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Mitchellville Cemetary. Memorial contributions can be made to Grandview Little League.
