Obituary

Richard John Dreller, 84, died May 1, 2013, with his family by his side in Fairhope, Alabama. Beloved husband of Mary Lucille (Lowe) Dreller. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Des Moines, IA, Friday, May 10, 2013, 12:30 p.m. followed by burial at Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, IA.

Richard was born May 24, 1928. He was the son of Albert and Bernadine (Wolters) Dreller. He married Mary Lucille (Lowe) Dreller on July 1, 1950 and she survives. He is also survived by three daughters and three sons, Shirley Dreller of Daphne, AL, Nancy (Brian) Todd of Libby, MT, Jean (Monty) Main of Johnston, IA, Stephen (Yasmin) Dreller of Des Moines, IA, Michael (Amy) Dreller of Town & Country, MO, and John (Elizabeth) Dreller of Scotts Valley, CA; eight grandchildren, Jon Todd, Katharine Dreller, David Dreller, Eric Main, Kristina Dreller, Derek Dreller, Claire Dreller and Thomas Dreller. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard Richard proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and is a United States Veteran from 1946 to 1948. His military service was very important to him.

Mr. Dreller spent his youth and many years in Davenport, Iowa. He was employed by Oscar Mayer & Co. for 39 years in many different management positions. He was initially employed at the Oscar Mayer facility in Davenport where his father was employed. He also worked at Oscar Mayer facilities in Madison, Wisconsin; Perry, Iowa; and Beardstown, Illinois.

Richard retired with his wife Mary to Daphne, Alabama in 1990. He enjoyed many years of warm weather and many rounds of golf, his favorite retirement pastime. Richard was a lifelong baseball fan, particularly of his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals, and was an active baseball player during his youth. He and Mary were members of the Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne, Alabama.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013, 6 – 8 p.m. at Iles Funeral homes-Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA 50322.
