Robert Glenn Thomson, 73, died February 18, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. A private memorial service will be held Friday morning, February 23, in Des Moines. Services are being handled by Dunn's Funeral Homes.

Robert was born September 1, 1933 to Manette and Glenn Thomson in Oklahoma City . He served as a helicopter mechanic in the U.S. Army in the late 1950s. He graduated from High School in Hiawatha, Kansas and later from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering in 1959. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity. He was employed by Rexnord Corporation as a sales engineer for 40 years, most recently as district sales manager. He held many positions in Rexnord in Baltimore, Richmond, Detroit and Atlanta before retiring to Bradenton, Florida in 2003.

Robert was involved in many civic organizations including the YMCA, Cub Scouts and served as president of several homeowners associations.

His hobbies included tennis (participating as a team player in tournament play), bicycling, travel and woodworking.

Robert is survived by his mother Manette, wife Sharon of 47 years, brothers, John and Jim, sons Brian (wife Karen) of North Barrington, Illinois and Mark of Des Moines, grandchildren Cameron and Colin and several nieces and nephews.
