Obituary

Robert H. Guild, Jr., 71, passed away on June 15, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, of complications from CNS Lymphoma of the brain. A celebration of his life will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove Avenue, Des Moines, IA on June 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Everyone is invited to join the family for a luncheon following the service at the Windsor Heights Community Center at Colby Park, 6900 School St, Windsor Heights, IA 50324.

Robert was born April 11, 1947 in Mason City, Iowa to parents, Robert H. and Lorna (Nelson) Guild. He graduated from Grand Forks High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He later received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Iowa and his Masters in Public Administration from Iowa State. On July 6, 1968, he was united in marriage to Sandra Smith. He served in the US Army in Vietnam and Germany from 1969 to 1971. He was a recipient of a Bronze Star as well as other service medals. He worked for 35 years in adult probation/parole for the State of Iowa. He retired in 2008. Robert was active in Grace United Methodist Church and loved his family, genealogy and fishing.

Robert is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughters, Susan (Kent) Craighton, Jennifer Guild (Jeremy Thompson) and Sarah (Jeff) Koenen and nine grandchildren: Cole and Samantha Beirnes, Coltin, Madison and Keely Craighton, Reece and Taylor Guild-Thompson, and Jackson and Emerson Koenen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael.

His family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the John Stoddard Cancer Center and Inpatient Unit at Powell.
