Robert Rodriguez Obituary

With heavy hearts we are sharing that our beloved, Robert "Rod" Rodriguez, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on his 76th birthday, June 28, 2024. Rod was a loving husband, father (second father figure to many), grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Miguel and Delores Rodriguez, and 10 siblings.

Rod is survived by his wife Paula; daughters, Tonya (Ahmad Shams), Tia (Sherrie) and Christina (Ronnie). He was also blessed with six grandchildren, Soliman, Amara, Mariana, Ialya, Sissy, and Ronnie Jr., who will miss him dearly.

Rod met his beautiful wife, Paula, at the Disco and was a strong and passionate family man. He served in the US Army Special Forces and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was awarded the Bronze Star and was a brave fighter until the end. He was a very generous man who left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. His smile and laugh, lit up the room. He loved to gamble at the Casino, take vacations and play cards with the family. He made friends with everyone he met. He had a heart of gold, the fight of a lion and will be sorely missed.

We find comfort in knowing that Rod's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.

A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Iles Dunn's Chapel, 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. A memorial service will follow at the Chapel, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, Iowa.
