Robert Samuel Doughty Jr., 78, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died Monday, August 27, 2012 at Highland Health Care in Bella Vista. He was born on March 10, 1934 in Fort Fairfield, Maine to Robert S. Doughty Sr. and Gertrude M. Sprague Doughty. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Fort Fairfield, Maine at a later date.

He was educated in Fort Fairfield School, graduating from high school in 1952, entering the military service, both through the Guard and Active Duty. Following the service during the Korean War, he entered college at Aroostook State Teachers College (now University of Maine at Presque Isle).

In 1974, Bob and his family moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where Bob took over the responsibilities of owner/manager of an insurance/security business for a major carrier. In about 1985, Bob left the carrier during a major reorganization of the carrier, and opened his ship and was incorporate under the name R.S. DOUGHTY ASSOCIATES LIMITED.

Bob and Nadine decided to consolidate all their homes into one retirement home in Bella Vista, Arkansas. His favorite activity was golfing and traveling. Bob had three holes-in-one and has shot his age seven times, starting at age 67.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine; his three sons, Kent Doughty, Kerby Doughty, Terry Doughty; three daughters, Barbara Ireland, Becky Rattray, Kelli Doughty; five step-sons, Michael Perkins, David Perkins, Dan Shutt, Dave Shutt and Bill Shutt; two brothers, Don Doughty, Dale Doughty; sister, Linda Ireland; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A Gathering will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fort Fairfield High School Scholarship in Fort Fairfield Maine.
