Obituary

Robert V. Bianchi, 69, passed away Saturday, January 21 at his home following a courageous battle with renal cancer. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Iles Funeral Homes Grandview Park Chapel in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 25 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Des Moines. Memorials may be sent to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Joseph Catholic School.

Bob was born July 5, 1936 in Des Moines. He was united in marriage to Jo Ann Yori in 1956. Bob is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; four sons and a daughter, Tim (Becky), Tony (Rhonda), Tami Enos (Dave), Tom (Heather) and Troy (Dee), 21 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Theresa; mother-in-law, Lucy Yori; sister-in-law, Rita Cunconan; brother-in-law, Larry Yori, all of the Des Moines Area. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Reno; mother, Gladys; and brother, Bernard.

Bob retired in September as President of United Steel Workers Local 310. Throughout his career Bob served as Chief Union Steward, Negotiator, Division Chairman, Safety Representative, and Pension and Insurance Representative. Bob was also a member of the international URW Executive Committee and Policy Committee. He served as President of Iowa Workers Compensation Advisory Committee inc. and taught worker compensation classes for University of Iowa Labor Center. In July 2003, Bob received the James Mac McDonnall Community Service award for Outstanding Volunteer Service from the South Central Iowa Federation of Labor AFL-CIO. Bob also devoted his talents to organizations outside of his trade serving on Polk County Planning and Zoning Commission, St. Joseph Catholic Parish Counsel, Athletic Committee as well as coaching Little League.
