Obituary

Robert W. Arnold, 89, died peacefully at Kavanagh House on October 24, after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 30 at St Luke’s Episcopal Church, 3425 Forest Avenue

Bob was born in Babylon, NY on April 2, 1917. He was raised by his mother, Margaretha, and attended Babylon High School on Long Island, NY, and later studied at New York University while employed by the Standard Oil Co. Bob served in the Office of Strategic Service during World War II, deployed in Southeast Asia and the Aleutian Islands. Bob met his wife, Patricia Trawver, on active duty while he was studying language and international law at the University of Iowa. Bob and Pat lived the rest of their lives in Des Moines where they raised 4 children: Chris, Rob, Jacie and Kate.

Bob was President of Iowa Mobile Homes and owner of Country Estates Mobile Home Village in Des Moines. He later served as President of Leasing Inc. and Park Leasing.
Bob joined the leasing operations of AmerUs Group in 1971 and retired as Chairman of the Board of Park Leasing, a division of AmerUs, in 1990. Bob was an active volunteer and community member in Des Moines where he and Pat were members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Bob was a past President of the Des Moines Rotary Club, the Iowa Easter Seals Society and the Iowa Society for Prevention of Blindness, among others. Bob was an avid golfer at Wakonda Club, as well as an accomplished sailor and tennis player in his youth. His was also an Eagle Scout, reflecting the values and character of his life.

Bob is survived by his children, Christopher Arnold (Kay) of Des Moines, Kathleen Arnold of Waterloo, Robert Arnold Jr. of Woodbury, MN, and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ted and Mary Arnold. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Arnold, his brother George Arnold and his daughter, Jacie Arnold Pillsbury. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jacie Arnold Pillsbury Scholarship Foundation at Simpson College.
