Robert Willard Langerak, 93, died Saturday, November 19, 2005 in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 21 at Westover Funeral Home. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Bob was born in Knoxville on April 20, 1912 to Meyer and Anna (VanHouwelingen) Langerak. He grew up in Pella and graduated from Central College. He began his career as an elementary teacher in 1933 and was a principal in the Des Moines School System from 1941-1977. He served at several schools including Greenwood, Hanawalt and spent 19 years at Smouse School where he worked with visually and physically handicapped children. During this time he earned his Masters in Education Administration from the University of Iowa and his Doctorate in Education from the University of Nebraska.

Bob was past president of the National Principals Association. He was also an U.S. Navy veteran, having served in England from 1943-1945. He enjoyed music and was a tenor soloist at Central Presbyterian Church, a member of the Hawkeye Four Quartet and participated in musical theater during winters in Florida. He also enjoyed summers at his cabin in Longville, MN.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Jane (John) Meier and son, Robert A. (Donna) Langerak both of Monticello, MN; five grandchildren, Bradley, Danny and Kara Langerak, Susan Towle and Kelly Paradis; and two great grandchildren, Alanna and Jonas Towle. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elizabeth; and his sister, Anna Mae Caddock.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Westover Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are directed to the Easter Seal Society.
