Obituary

Roche Pimental Ramos, M.D. passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, September 1, 2014, at The Life Center from complications of renal failure. Dr. Ramos was born on August 31, 1941, in Vinzons, Camarines Norte, Philippines.

Dr. Ramos received her medical degree from the College of Medicine Manila Central University in the Philippines. She immigrated to the United States in 1973 with her two children, Enrique (Erik) and Bernadette, where she continued her education completing her residency in New Jersey and subsequently two fellowships in Hematology and Oncology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She worked as a clinical Pathologist and a Professor at Kansas City University of Medicine and BioScience before moving to Des Moines where she taught Pathology and served as Head and Director of Pathology at Des Moines University for 25 years. Teaching brought her great joy. Dr. Ramos was beloved by her students – many of whom still practice in the Des Moines area. She won numerous teaching awards and was honored with Professor Emeritus distinction upon retirement in 2004.

Dr. Ramos' deepest devotion was to her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Her greatest joys were seeing her children and her four grandchildren grow and thrive in their lives.

Dr. Ramos was preceded in death by her parents, Primo and Trinidad Pimental, two brothers, Rene and Romulo and her sister, Rosalind. She is survived by her son, Erik (Elizabeth) Bedia of West Des Moines, Iowa, her daughter, Bernadette (Delbert) Bedia Adams of North Las Vegas, Nevada, and her four grandchildren, Jacob and Grace Bedia and Rachel and Joshua Bedia Borders.

A Memorial Mass will be given on Saturday, September 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Des Moines, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
