Obituary

Rodney Singer, 83, died Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Independence Village in Waukee. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Tuesday, July 16th at Iles Westover Chapel where a Vigil Service will begin at 7 pm. Funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday, July 17th at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Dallas Center.

Rodney was born July 19, 1940 in Hartford, SD to Jim and Nellie (Pressler) Singer. He married Rose Marie Hufford on April 23, 1960 in Mitchell, SD and moved to Des Moines shortly thereafter. The couple moved into their first home in the small town of Waukee in 1965, and then to the home they dearly loved on Ashworth Road in 1974. Over the 50 years he was a great neighbor and friend to all, welcoming new residents through his daily walks with his beloved pet, Willie. Rod was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church for nearly 60 years. He loved his parish and it was the center piece of his life in Waukee.

Rodney built a successful career as a sales consultant for Geo. H. Weyers and other barber and beauty supply companies. There he developed lifelong relationships with his customers that continued after his retirement in 2003. Rod then drove school buses for Waukee for several years before joining Joy Ride Transport, a local handicap transportation service as one of their first employees in 2010. He was an ambitious man who loved all his work and the people he served over the years.

Survivors include his children: Perry (Melissa) Singer of Highland Village, Texas, Kurt Singer of Altoona; grandchildren: Ben of Austin, TX and Jake of McKinney, TX, Zachary of Des Moines, Aaron of Ankeny and Katelyn (Spencer) Simmons of Norwalk; great grandson: Grayson Carder-Singer of Des Moines; siblings: Mary Jo (Brian) Andreasen of Blaine, MN, Mike Thyberg of Hartford, SD. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Rose Marie; son, Russell Singer.
