Roger Rowe, 85, died Monday, October 2, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10:30am Friday, October 6 at Dallas Center United Methodist Church, of which he was a 50 year member, with burial to follow at Brethren Cemetery in Dallas Center.

Roger was born to Charlie Glenn and Norma (Mortimer) Rowe on September 17, 1921 on the family farm one mile east of Dallas Center, which later was designated a Century Farm. From that day forward the farm was one of his greatest loves; next to his wife Anne, four children, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Roger was a farmer and was awarded the Outstanding Young Farmer Award by the Perry Jaycees in 1956. He showed the Grand Champion Carcass Steer at the Chicago Livestock Exposition in 1938. Roger was a member of the Dallas County Cattlemen’s Association, the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Stockyard Collectors, National Bit, Spur and Saddle Collectors Association, was a former member of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse and was a 32nd degree Mason.

Roger is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anne; his children, Rosemarie (Roger) Olhausen of Jefferson, Glenn (Bev) Rowe of Lorimor, Jean Patterson of Dallas Center and Phyllis Toombs of West Des Moines; nine grandchildren, Randy Olhausen, Robin Brand, Justin Rowe, Tanner Rowe, Matthew Patterson, Anne Wright, Emily Patterson, Jamie Toombs and Wade Toombs; six great grandchildren, Trent Olhausen, Nolan, Summer, Kaleb and Kameron Brand and Cecelia Rowe; and his sister, Phyllis (Doyle) Fleishman of Dallas Center. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Monty Toombs.

Visitation begins after 3pm Thursday at Iles Funeral Homes-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions can be made to the Dallas Center Library Foundation or the Dallas Center United Methodist Church.
