Obituary

Ronald Eugene Riley Jr. passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024 at home. A visitation will be held on October 28, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Iles Grandview Park Chapel. A funeral service will be on October 29, 2024 beginning at 12:00 pm at Iles Grandview Park Chapel with a luncheon to follow. Interment will be at Berwick Cemetery.

Ron was born August 26, 1943 to Ronald Eugene Riley Sr and Vera Alice (Blackford) Riley. Ron had two sisters Donna and Mary Ann. The family lived for a time on the south side of Des Moines near the Blank Park Zoo. Then they moved to the northeast side where Ron attended Warren Harding Junior High and Tech High School graduating in 1962.

After his graduation 1962 he entered the Air Force doing basic training at Shepard Air Force Base in Texas. After basic training he returned home to marry JoAnn (Hoots) in March 5, 1963. He served in the Air Force at Fort Dix, NJ for 4 years active with deployment to Viet Nam and 2 years reserve when returned from Viet Nam. After leaving the Air Force, the small family; Ron, Joann and Theresa returned to Des Moines. Their son Ronnie was born to the family Oct 1970.

Ron and Joann have been married for 61 years.

Ron began his 58-year working career in Des Moines for Lennox, Keystone and EP2 finally retiring in 2008.

Ron was a hard worker and that reflected in his hobby of restoring old cars and doing woodworking. Over the years Ron has restored four or five different cars.

Because of his love for cars, he also loved to participate in car shows. He liked to attend and support the Blue Star Mothers of Iowa. An organization that sends care packages to military personnel. Ron did not like being in the spotlight and was happiest working hard behind the scenes with little recognition for his participation.

Ron is survived by his wife, JoAnn, daughter Theresa, and son Ronnie III (Michelle Rogers) and his sister Mary Ann. He is also survived by three grandchildren (Samantha Chaney, Craig Scrivner, Emilie Rogers), three great grandchildren (Parker Scrivner, MacKenzie Chaney, Elijah Scrivner). His family proceeding him in death are his father Ronald Sr, his mother Vera, and his sister Donna.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Blue Star Mothers of Iowa or Za Ga Zig Shrine.
