Obituary

Ronald "Scott" Rees of Waukee, IA, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, after a year-long battle with colon cancer. He was born on September 6, 1973 to Ron Rees and Linda Moser (Miller) in Knoxville, Iowa.

This is where he grew up and could be found every Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway watching Sprint car races with his family and friends. During the Knoxville Nationals, he was the "official" scorekeeper of section G. Many fans and drivers would wait for Scott to get point totals so they knew where they were lining up for Saturday night's race. He would have the lineup done hours before the scorekeepers. He even called Ralph Capitani one year to tell them that they had a driver in the wrong spot. Cappy didn't like it, but he did fix it.

Scott went to school in Knoxville, graduating from high school in 1992. Throughout his young life he loved playing sports, especially basketball and football. His claim to fame was scoring the winning touchdown against Albia in 8th grade, a story which he would tell any chance he got. He played basketball throughout his high school career, and was proud to be selected for the Academic All State Team (emphasis on Academic) and continued to play into his adult life. In his final days we think he dreamt of some of these games as we often saw him making a shot in his sleep.

He left Knoxville in 1992 to attend college at Drake University where he graduated in 1996 with a degree in Actuarial Science. During this time he was a Kemper Scholar, which led him to Illinois and his first job as an Actuary at Kemper Insurance.

This is where he met his wife, Denice in 1998. They were married in 2003 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. In 2006, they welcomed Kayla Nicole. She instantly became his favorite person, and the two shared an amazing bond. Their family was completed in 2009 when their son, Connor Scott, was born. Scott was incredibly proud of Connor and loved his quick wit and the fun (and often inappropriate) banter they shared. More than anything else, Scott was an incredible husband and father.

Scott loved his family and friends fearcely and enjoyed all the time he spent with his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Whether that be at an NFL game, the races, wrestling shows, watching the kids play sports or just hanging out, he was always so fun to be around.

Those left to honor Scott's life include his wife, Denice, daughter Kayla, son Connor, parents Linda Moser, Ron and Julie Rees, sisters Dee (Chad) Bradshaw, Candy (Dave) Mullins, Kelli Cooper, beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was prececed in death by his grandparents Donald and Dorothy Rees and Marion" Tumpy" and Alpha Miller, step-mother Judy Rees, step-father Ron Moser and parent in-laws Vicki and Loren Ross.

We will be having a celebration of life on Sunday, September 8th.
