Ruth A. Lathrop passed away on April 23 following a very brief stay in Hospice Care at the Madrid Home in Madrid. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 26 at Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid. Committal services will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Union Cemetery in Guthrie Center, Iowa.

Ruth was the third of seven children born to Arthur W. Lathrop and Ruby Jean Brand Lathrop. She was born in Guthrie County on November 13, 1905, nearly reaching her 100th birthday.

Ruth lived an interesting life. She earned her Normal Training Certificate and taught in the one room school setting for several years before becoming secretary to the Guthrie County Superintendent of Schools. She moved to Perry, worked in the Brenton Bank, was active in the Women's Banking Association and retired. In later life she was employed by Kale Funeral Home of 0sceola and retired a second time before moving to Madrid.

Ruth was active in the United Methodist Church for many years, but upon moving to Madrid she became a member of St. Paul's U.C.C.

She leaves to mourn her passing a brother, Arthur W. Lathrop (Dorothy) of Dallas Center; a sister, Ruby Charter of Madrid; a host of nieces and nephews, as well as many great-nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers, Max Lathrop, George Lathrop, Donald Lathrop; and her sister, Margaret Snyder.

Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. today at Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions could be made to the Madrid Home Havens Hospice Program.
