Obituary

Ruth J. Quaas Dunn, 92 , died, 04/27/06, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston from kidney and respiratory complications.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at the Urbandale United Church of Christ, 3530 70th Street in Urbandale, where the family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the service time. Burial will be at McDivitt Grove Cemetery at 70th Street and Meredith Drive. A reception at the church will follow the burial.

Ruth was born January 19, 1914, to Willard L. and Katie S. Pflughaupt Quaas in rural Rowley, IA. She was a graduate of Washington High School and Coe College in Cedar Rapids. Ruth married Newton W. Dunn in Cedar Rapids on September 5, 1937. They moved to Urbandale in 1944, to Waterloo in 1963, and back to Urbandale in 1989. Their most recent residence was McAuley Terrace in Johnston.

Ruth was a homemaker, an office assistant at their business Chem-Sol in Waterloo, an insurance office clerk, and a cafeteria worker while her children were attending college. Her activities centered around Women's Fellowship and care giving at the Urbandale United Church of Christ and First Methodist Church in Waterloo. She was a volunteer with RSVP in Waterloo, the Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging in Waterloo, Living History Farms in Urbandale, and the Discovery Shop in West Des Moines. She had also been active in the Urbandale Lioness Club.

Ruth is survived by daughters Carol Boals of Naperville, IL and Janet Dunn of Des Moines; sister Florence Roselle of Riverside, CA; grandchildren Jim Muehlhausen of Indianapolis, IN, Paige Dunn Henderson of Urbandale, Julie Dunn Siegel of Ames, Mindy Dunn Mentzer of Asbury, IA, Alinda Boals Bolle of Naperville, IL, Shannon Boals of South Lyon, MI, Aaron Boals of Oak Ridge, NC, and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceding Ruth in death were her husband Newton on January 3, 2005; son Dennis Dunn; granddaughter Alissa Boals; and sisters Pearl Fredine Selstad and Ruby Holyoke Cunningham.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Urbandale United Church of Christ, Mercy Hospice in Johnston, or the Urbandale Lioness Club.
