Ruth Schultz Obituary

Ruth Marie Schultz passed away at Valley View Village on the morning of Thursday, September 22nd. She was 95. Visitation for Ruth will be held at Iles Funeral Home at Grandview Park on Monday, 26 September at 9:30 followed by a service at 10:30. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill immediately after.

Ruth was born April 22nd, 1927, to Jacob and Anna Trutza in Iowa Falls, Iowa. She grew up in nearby Alden, Iowa and graduated from Alden High School. After graduation she attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City.

While on a bus sightseeing tour, she met her future husband Thomas Martin Schultz, who also happened to be the bus driver of her trip. They had three children, Gary, Greg, and Anne. After the kids were all in school, Ruth went back into the workforce with the Des Moines School System working in the lunchroom. She also started working seasonally with H&R Block doing taxes and did so for over 30 years. After the kids were all grown, she accepted a job with the State of Iowa and retired from there with over 20 years of service. Hobbies included gardening and cross-stitch. Ruth was also very active in her church, Hope Lutheran, and taught a Bible Studies class for many years until her health deteriorated.

Ruth is survived by her son Greg Schultz (Gail) and daughter Anne Hayes (Joel). Grandchildren Stacy Roberts (Ryan), Mike Schultz (Kate), Mandy Kunert (Matt), Dusty Loftus (Richele), Julia Goolia, Gretchen Negrete and 10 Great Grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents Jake and Anna, her husband Tom, and son Gary.

The family would like to thank the staff at Valley View Village and Unity Point Hospice for their compassionate and professional care for Ruth in her final days.
