Ruth Townsdin Obituary

Ruth Mary Townsdin, 81, of Des Moines, Iowa died at her home on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Ruth was born February 27, 1944 in Englewood, Colorado to Kenneth Mercer and Harriett Grace (Lawrence) Townsdin.

After finishing her education and living in different parts of the country she settled in Des Moines. Ruth finished raising her family here and was retired from Principal Financial.

Ruth loved spending time with family and being a nana. Her hobbies included reading, bird watching, and caring for her dog. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, serving on the Funeral and Communion Committees of the Board of Deacons.

Survivors include son Wesley Kuehl, daughter Yarrow (Hugh) Tran, granddaughters Aubree and Elaina, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Harriett, brother Kenneth, and sisters Elizabeth and Polly.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 30, 2025, 11:00am at Plymouth Congregational Church, 4126 Ingersoll Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50312. The family will greet friends from 10:00am Tuesday prior to the service. Lunch will be served immediately after the funeral. Following lunch the funeral procession will leave Plymouth at 1:00pm for interment at Glendale Cemetery.
