Ruth Berven, age 92, passed away on January 10, 2015, at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, at Grace Lutheran Church, 3010 - 52nd St., Des Moines, with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, at Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road.

Ruth was born on August 19, 1922, in Des Moines, IA and married her husband of 70 years, Arthur N. Berven, on November 14, 1942. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines and attended Capital City Commercial College, where she met her future husband. An accomplished seamstress and cook, she was employed at the Roosevelt Fabric Shop and also in the Food Department at the Iowa State Fair for many years. She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Norman and Barbara Mittelstaedt Berven of Waunakee, WI; daughter Barbara Berven of Des Moines; and daughter and son-in-law Margaret and Don York of Ankeny; grandchildren Jennifer Berven, Kris (Marc) Montgomery, and Gregg York; great-grandchildren Chelsey Scott, Taylor Ramsey, Nicole (Brad) Germaux, Jessica (Charles) Yingling, and Kaitlyn and Hannah Montgomery; great-great grandchildren Sage Germaux and Violet Yingling; aunt Marie Kittelson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jack Lynch, Wayne and Erika Sharp, Bob and Helen Sharp, Janis Sharp, Joyce Sharp, and Arlene Sharp; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Art; parents William and Zora Sharp; parents-in-law Nels and Anna Berven; brothers Jack, Don, Billy, Raymond, Rex, Max, and Larry; sisters Mignon Currie and Jane Ann Sharp; sister-in-law Frances Lynch; and daughter-in-law Stella Stone Berven.
