Obituary

Sally Ann Reece, 71, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 3:15 p.m. at Downtown Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA of congestive heart failure. A Memorial Service will be held at the Dallas Center Church of the Brethren on Saturday, January 14th 2012, at 11 a.m. with her son-in-law officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of the cremated remains will follow at the Kimrey Cemetery in rural Minburn, IA where her son Tommy Reece is buried.

Sally was born on June 13th 1940 to Alice Cleveland and was adopted at 6 weeks old by her parents B. Keith and Mary Fry who preceded her in death.

Sally taught art briefly at Waukee Community Schools as a substitute and then was hired as the K-12 Art Teacher for the DC-G Community School District where she taught for 21 years. Sally touched hundreds of peoples' lives through teaching art to her students, taking the Art 4 Classes to Chicago every year, teaching adult education classes and truly having a relationship with her students. She played the organ and sang at her churches through the years. Sally was an elder at the South Lake Presbyterian Church and a full member there. She kept her associate membership at the Dallas Center Church of the Brethren. Sally traveled all over the world enjoying the different cultures, the flowers, the arts and the historic sites. She was in Tiananmen Square a month before the revolt and enjoyed the Floriada in Amsterdam.

Sally was preceded in death by her beloved son Tom, her brother Tommy, her parents B. Keith and Mary Fry and many other relatives. She leaves behind her husband of 50 years, Joe Reece of Clermont, FL; daughter Kathy (Randy) Johnson of Dallas Center, IA, her grandchildren, David, Dakota and Rachel Johnson; her brother Bill (Yvonne) Fry of Gladbrook, IA; and her nephews Josh Fry of Grinnell, IA and J. Keith Fry of Marshalltown, IA.

Memorials may be given to the family to be directed later or the Dallas Center Church of the Brethren.
