Scott Wood, 65, died November 23, 2006 of cancer at Kavanagh House. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 30 at Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29 at Dunn's Funeral Home, Des Moines.

Scott was born November 30, 1940 in Evanston, Wyoming. He attended elementary and high school in Boulder City, Nevada, where he was a National Merit Scholarship winner. He attended the Air Force Academy and graduated from the University of Southern California. Scott received his Doctor of Psychology degree from Arizona State University and worked as a Research Associate at Western Michigan University before coming to Drake University where he taught and conducted research for 36 years in the Department of Psychology. As a behavioral psychologist, Scott was one of three people that created an Independent Association for Behavior Analysis (ABA) in 1974. He was also a founding member of the B. F. Skinner Foundation and helped to produce the first issue of Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. Scott taught undergraduate and graduate courses in experimental and applied analysis of behavior, sports psychology, psychology of gambling, and other areas of psychology. He established one of the first Master Degree programs in Behavior Analysis in the field. Scott recently served on the Advisory Committee to the Iowa Gambling Treatment Program.

In 1992, Scott was the recipient of a double lung transplant at University Hospitals in Iowa City, IA. He was one of the longest surviving lung recipients in the country. Scott exercised regularly before and after his transplant. Prior to the transplant he was an enthusiastic runner competing in several marathons and shorter events; afterwards, he swam regularly. Before and after the transplant, Scott was an avid golfer, achieving a hole-in-one October 27, 1999.

Survivors include his wife, Dawn Moser of Urbandale; three stepchildren, Isaac, Oliver, and Claire Couture, of Iowa; a brother, Al Wood, of Colorado; Al's children, Carson, Amanda, and Robbie; and cousin, Bud Wood, of Utah. He will also be missed by his many friends and associates.
