Obituary

Shirley Eileen (Hansen) Jones, December 11, 1942 - July 16, 2024, age 81 years

Shirley was born in Hampton, Iowa and grew up on a farm south of Coulter. She was the youngest of four children born to Ernest and Marie Hansen, and grew up in an intergenerational household with her parents, grandfather, brothers, sister, an aunt, and a cousin, at various times.

After graduating from CAL Community School, Shirley married Russ Jones of Hampton. They soon moved to Newton, Iowa, and had two children, Lori and Steve. Shirley loved children and did in-home childcare for many years, raising her own and many other children. She opened a resale clothing store, The Dressing Room, in Newton, where she worked and served the community for 32 years. She married Loren Reineking, also from Coulter, in 2000 and they lived in Johnston. Together they enjoyed traveling, NASCAR, visiting family and friends, and spending winter months in San Diego. She was a life-long Lutheran, and a member at St. John’s in Coulter, Holy Trinity in Newton, and Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Loren Reineking of West Des Moines; children: Lori (Phil) Ruge-Jones of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Steve (Laura) Jones of Newton; stepdaughters Tracy (Scott) Strohm of Shawnee, KS and Keri (James) Curtis of West Des Moines; grandchildren Kayla (Rob) Hammons of Kansas City, Luisa Ruge-Jones of Cincinnati, OH, Jonah (Ashley) Jones of Huxley, Lucas (Lexi) Rugejones of Austin, TX, Grace “Ryan” Jones of Des Moines, Brennen and Katherine Strohm of Shawnee, and Michaela and Benjamin Curtis of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Camren, Vada, Rose, Tyler, Alessa, and Delphina, sister Leona Meyer of Iowa Falls, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Marie Hansen of Coulter; brothers and sisters-in-law Earl (Ann) Hansen and Glenn (Sherrill) Hansen; brother-in-law Bud Meyer of Coulter; and two nieces, Kathy Hansen and Susan Blau.
