Obituary

Shirley L. McEntee, 68, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 20, 2022 after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother (Mema). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 28, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, with burial to follow at Rising Sun Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. The service will be livestreamed on the Iles website. Go to IlesCares.com at 10:15 a.m. Monday and scroll to the bottom of Shirley’s obituary to join in the service.

Shirley was born on December 7, 1953, in Des Moines Iowa, the 3rd of 4 children to Charles and Donna Joan Provow. While growing up, Shirley loved to fish, go camping and mushroom hunting with her family. She married Timothy McEntee on December 5, 1981 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Urbandale. Settling in Urbandale Iowa, they raised two children: Jennifer Lynne and Jeffrey Charles. The family moved from Des Moines to Keene NH, Edmond OK, Kansas City MO and eventually back to Waukee IA when they retired. Shirley enjoyed the moves and challenges that came with it. From building a new home in each location, getting the kids settled in school, finding new jobs and meeting new neighbors and friends. She loved each new city and what it had to offer.

Shirley worked for several companies over the years from Hawkeye Banco Corporation, Tones Spice Company, Holy Trinity School, Liberty Insurance Co and Mike Jones Coldwell Banker Brokerage.

Shirley loved spending time with her family and watching her two children grow up. While in Urbandale, she started the annual McEntee Cousin Christmas Cookie Decorating party. She would be baking her famous sugar cookies a couple days before the big event and loved having all the cousins come over and decorate cookies just in time for Christmas. At Holy Trinity she worked in the lunch room as the baker. She enjoyed preparing recipes for the kids each day including those sugar cookies. She was also a great cook and enjoyed preparing holiday meals for her family including preparing a Thanksgiving meal at her son’s fraternity in Colorado.

While in Kansas City Shirley and Tim were members of a Volkswagen Club. Shirley looked forward to the monthly meetings, annual club show and enjoying dinner with the many friends she had there even when she was struggling with her cancer.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Charles William Provow (2012), Donna Joan Provow (2022) and her older brother Steven (2017). She is survived by husband Tim of 41 years, daughter Jennifer Strouse (Kevin), son Jeffrey McEntee (Kayla), sister Sally Ann Provow (Steven Nakamura), brother Scott Matthew Provow (Leslie) and 5 grandchildren: Connor, Abigail, Addison, Allison McEntee and Rory Strouse.

The family will receive friends from 3 - 5 p.m. Sunday, November 27, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to EveryStep Hospice/Kavanagh House, St. Boniface Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.

Shirley will be forever in our hearts and deeply missed by her family and those who knew her. No matter what the distance is between us, her family will take comfort in knowing she is watching over us and guiding us until we meet again and will be cherishing the many gifts and memories you have left behind.
