Obituary

Shirley Tepper Hiersteiner died peacefully Thursday, March 13, 2008, at her home at Deerfield Community. She succumbed to multiple myeloma after a courageous thirteen year battle. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Temple B'nai Jeshurun. Burial will be at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.

Shirley was born in Denver, Colorado on October 2, 1922 to Harry and Molly Tepper. After graduating from High School, she attended San Diego State. She returned to Denver and met Stanley Hiersteiner who was stationed there. They were married in January of 1945.

They returned to Des Moines where they raised their family. Shirley was active in her community and was a member of the Iowa Jewish Home Guild, the Temple Sisterhood and taught religious school.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 63 years, Stanley; her children: Debby Feintech, Susie ((Josh) Kimelman both of Des Moines and Robert (Jan) Hiersteiner of Winston-Salem, NC. Shirley cherished her nine grandchildren: Brian (Laura Peterson) Feintech, Elizabeth (Geoff) Harold, Jeffrey Feintech, Sarah (Dan) Schatz, Rebecca (Howard) Elgart, Michael Kimelman, Laura, Sophie and Allison Hiersteiner and her great granddaughter, Emily Schatz.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Arnold Tepper

Her family is grateful for her love and life long devotion, her warmth, her wit, her strength and valiant courage and fortitude. She will be missed.

The care and infinite kindness she received during her last days at Deerfield are deeply appreciated.
