Obituary

Sister Adrienne Marie Savage, CHM, 95, passed away, Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center, Johnston, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 6 at Humility of Mary Center, Davenport, Iowa. Burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will begin at 4 p.m. Friday with a vigil service held at 7 p.m. at Humility of Mary Center.

Adrienne Marie was born Marie Anastasia Savage, December 26, 1912 in Wibaux, Montana, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Pokorney) Savage. She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary on September 8, 1946 and professed her vows on July 19, 1949. Marie received a BA in Social Science from College of Great Falls, Great Falls and an MA in Theology from St. Mary's College, Moraga, CA. She received her teacher education at Eastern and Western Montana Colleges. She also studied at Marycrest College, Davenport and College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, MN.

Before entering the community, Marie taught in Montana rural schools. She served in the US Marine Corp from 1943 to 1945 and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. She taught in elementary schools in Great Falls, Glendive, Lewistown and Sidney, MT as well as in Ottumwa, Neola and Bettendorf, IA, serving as principal in several of the schools. She was Parochial School Coordinator in the Great Falls Diocesan Office of Education. After preparation at Homes for Growth in Winnipeg, she ministered as a Personality and Human Relation Formator in Canada and Montana. She had an active retired life at Humility of Mary Center in Davenport from 1992. She moved to Bishop Drumm in June 2008.

In addition to the services in Davenport, a rosary will begin at 4pm, Thursday, September 4 with a vigil service at 6:30pm at Our Lady of Peace Chapel - Bishop Drumm, Johnston, IA.

Memorials may be made to the Sisters of Humility.
