Obituary

Sister Josephine Abel, 88, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 28 at the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport.

Sister Josephine was born the daughter of William J. and Molly (Burgmeier) Abel on May 31, 1916 in Moore, Montana. She grew up and graduated from high school in Lewistown, MT, attended Great Falls College in Great Falls, MT and graduated from Sienna Heights College in Adrain, MI. She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary on June 8, 1934 and professed her vows on August 15, 1937.

Sister Josephine's missions included teaching in catholic schools in Glendive, Great Falls, and Lewistown, Montana. In Iowa, she taught at Walsh High School in Ottumwa and later served as secretary at Ottumwa Heights before retiring to the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by two nieces, B.J. Dunnington of Lewistown, MT and Jeannie Manion of Kalispell, MT.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Peace Chapel, Bishop Drumm Care Center with a wake service at 7 p.m. There will also be visitation after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport with a wake service at 7 p.m.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Congregation of the Humility of Mary.
