Obituary

Sister Mary St. Catherine LaMar, 86, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at the Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 2 at Humility of Mary Center in Davenport. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport.

Sister St. Catherine was born the daughter of Charles and Catherine LaMar on February 16, 1918 in Melrose, Iowa. She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary July 3, 1936 and professed her final vows January 15, 1940. Her missions included St. Vincents in Davenport; Christ Child Home and St. Theresa in Des Moines; St. Joseph in Fort Madison; and Ottumwa Heights in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Sister St. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Veronica Guelzow; and two brothers, Bernard and James LaMar. She is survived by her brother, Charles LaMar of Albia; and sisters, Rosella Gilland of Albia, Mary Gross of Albia, Kathleen Brandtner of Oskaloosa and Marie Granatino of Albia.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Peace Chapel, Bishop Drumm Home Care Center in Johnston with a wake service at 7 p.m. There will also be visitation after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Humility.
