Stephen A. Dubansky, 51, died Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, July 14 at Temple B'nai Jeshurun, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Jewish Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Iles Funeral Homes -Dunn's Chapel.

Stephen was born the son of Dr. Marvin and Shirley Dubansky on August 1, 1954 in Des Moines. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park, NY and Florida International University. Stephen worked for 30 years as a professional chef around the country. Stephen lived in St. Louis for 13 years prior to moving back to Des Moines five years ago. While in St. Louis, he worked at the Jewish Community Center. Stephen also owned his own restaurant, Stephen's, in West Des Moines.

Stephen enjoyed spending time with his son, Josh, woodworking and preparing wonderful feasts for his family and friends.

Stephen was preceded in death by his mother Shirley. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Julie (Gaston); son, Josh; parents, Dr. Marvin and Betty Dubansky; brothers and sisters: Robert (Peggy) Dubansky; Diane (Kenneth) Pratt, Andrea (Barry) Nadler, Cynthia Dubansky, Carol (Jeff) Mau, and Marty Swartz; parents in laws: Jim and Nadine Gaston; brother and sister in laws: Sue Cruzan, Dick (Ronda) Gaston, Cathy (Jim) McCormick, Mary (Dick) Ludwig, Bob (Carolyn) Gaston and Joe (Kim) Gaston; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Youth Educational Fund at Temple B'nai Jeshurun or American Diabetes Association.
