Steven Schmidt Obituary

Steven John Schmidt, 68, passed away after a short illness at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on March 31, 2023.

Steve was born on October 29, 1954 to Ralph and Dorothy (Perdue) Schmidt at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa. He attended Meservey-Thornton High School, graduating in 1973, before spending one year at Central College in Pella, Iowa on a football scholarship. He then transferred to Iowa State University earning his Engineering degree in 1978.

Steve spent the majority of his career as a mechanical engineer at Firestone, and later a managing partner in a small engineering firm till his retirement in 2022.

Steve was a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and an avid Cyclones fan. He loved to attend live concerts and always enjoyed “rocking out” on his electric guitar. After retirement, Steve found a new love for the outdoors and spent many afternoons walking in the woods. He will be deeply missed by many.

Steve is survived by his children, Lacey and Dylan, his grandchildren Henry and James, brother Jim, and sister Becky (John “JC”) Chalberg. He also leaves behind two cats, Missy and Cookie, whom he loved dearly.
