Susan M. Noth passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines, following a courageous struggle with ovarian cancer. She was 58 years old. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012 at Saint Augustin Catholic Church in Des Moines, with burial to follow in Glendale Cemetery.

Sue was born in Oelwein, Iowa and grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and Davenport, Iowa. She graduated from Assumption High School in Davenport and the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois, and later completed her bachelor's degree at Kirkwood Community College. For many years she was an intensive/critical care nurse at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines and a volunteer at Kavanagh House.

Sue is survived by her husband of 35 years, William Noth, and their three sons, Michael, Christopher and Gregory; her sisters Judith (Timothy) Haggard of Larkspur, Colorado, Janice (Richard) Gunnarson of Indianola, Iowa, and Kathy (Patrick) Hall of Port Byron, Illinois; her mother Elizabeth Devlin of Davenport, Iowa; and 11 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Thomas Devlin.

Sue was a wonderful, loving spouse and mother, with an easy smile, a warm heart, and a great sense of humor. She was devoted to "her boys" and to her many close friends, including a special group of "church ladies." She loved nursing, a good book, sunny afternoons on the porch, walking in the neighborhood, and laughing with friends. She was a gift, and loved by many.

The family is grateful to Dr. Tom Buroker for his many acts of kindness and support for Sue, and for the caring nurses, aides and medical staff at Iowa Methodist Hospital and Kavanagh House.

The family will greet friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Dunn's Funeral Home at 2121 Grand Avenue in Des Moines, with a vigil service beginning at 7:45 p.m. and the rosary to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be designated for HCI Care Services, the Anawim Housing Foundation, or Orchard Place.
