Susan 'Sue' Tyler Obituary

Born in Des Moines with what she referred to as “the redhead connection”, Sue Tyler began kicking A$% in 1941. She ditched her solo career in 1959 and joined forces with the love of her life, Ray. They were so young when they married that Sue often joked “we practically raised each other”.

Three kids followed in rapid succession and the Tyler’s were off and running. They collectively kicked A#& until the kids started to peel away, starting their own families. Thus, the golden age of grandchildren began. You may have heard about the almighty Nana because she was the best there ever was. She hung the moon and stars and invented Nana-ing. She was proud of her six grandkids, and they adored her.

Sue was dealt a mighty blow when her husband and beloved passed away in 2006, however her determination to continue kicking A^$ kept her going. She let her generous spirit lead by continuing her involvement in TTT (Tri-T) and volunteering her time to The World Food Prize. She filled her social life with activities from Tai Chi to bridge to ISU football tailgates. The friends she had throughout her life and the friends she made in the latter part were immensely important to her. Thank you for being there.

Sue is survived by her children, Brian Tyler, Raeann (Jim) Curran and Rob Tyler; grandchildren, Kate (Troy) Neidermire, Andy (Rachel Pashon)Tyler, Brian (April) Curran, Jack (Marie) Curran, James Curran and Keely Tyler; great grandchildren, Mara Neidermire, Quinn and Cooper Curran. Sue was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 47 years, Ray Tyler.

Memorial contributions can be made to John Stoddard Cancer Center and Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. Private services were held at Glendale Cemetery where she was laid to rest next to Ray
