Sylvia Evnen Siegel, a woman of valor, died, Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. She was born on November 23, 1912 in Lincoln, Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska before marrying Harold Siegel and moving to Des Moines. Her husband, Harold died in 1951, leaving Sylvia to raise and educate her two children, Nancy and Bruce. She was a strong and independent woman and instilled in her children her strong values of love and responsibility for family and community.

Sylvia had a wonderful sense of humor and great love for her family; her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her late brothers and sisters; Eli, Hy, Jean and Ruth.

She worked for over 30 years as secretary at Tifereth Israel Synagogue, where generations of congregants and their children loved and respected her.

Her children, Nancy Siegel of Walnut Creek, California and Dr. Bruce Siegel of Cincinnati, Ohio and grandsons, Todd and Ryan survive her.

Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., today, Tuesday, at Tifereth Israel Synagogue. Burial will be at Jewish Glendale Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. Donations in her memory may be made to Tifereth Israel Synagogue.
