Ted K. Pemberton was born on June 6, 1937, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Kenneth William and Margaret Aileen (Jenkins) Pemberton. He was raised on the family farm in Carlton Township, west of Garwin, Iowa, where he attended country school for two years. He attended Green Mountain School for six months, and then moved with his family to Lookout Mountain, Colorado, where they lived for one year. His family returned to the Garwin area, where he attended Garwin Consolidated School, graduating with the Class of 1956.

In November 1956, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps, and served in Japan, Okinawa, and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in November 1958.

On March 25, 1960, he married Shirley Kay Busch in Gladbrook, Iowa. They lived in Marshalltown, Iowa, for two years, and he worked for the Moorman Feed Company. He and the family then moved back to the Garwin area, where he worked with his father on the family farm, and took over the Pemberton family farm in 1969, which he continued to operate until 1983.

He was active in the community, serving as president of the Garwin Community Club in 1971. He helped start the Garwin Volunteer Ambulance Service in December of 1971, and served faithfully on the Ambulance Service for 13 1/2 years.

He attended Marshalltown Community College, graduating with an AA Degree in Electronic Technology in 1985. Ted & Shirley moved to Tempe, Arizona, where he worked for several security companies. He began working for We Monitor America in February 1991, and worked there until it closed in June 2002, and then worked for them from home as an independent contractor from July 2002 through March 2004. In 2022, Ted moved to an independent living community in Dallas, Texas, to be near family.

Ted enjoyed spending time with his family, researching family genealogy, researching and trading investments, working with computers, playing cards, and ballroom dancing with Shirley.
