Obituary

Ted Parry, 61, was born in Des Moines to Harold and Dorothy Parry on April 17, 1951. He lived in the Des Moines area his whole life, one he lived fully. He was an ambitious young man working hard in all his endeavors, a trait he passed on to his sons. He attended Roosevelt High School and Iowa State University, of which he became a lifelong fan.

Ted was a loving father to his three sons – Zac, Josh, and Luke. He was a man always there to give advice when needed or just listen if you needed to vent.

Ted was a man of many interests and talents, dabbling in everything from drag racing to master gardening. He loved to challenge his mind and find new areas to explore. He loved to work and was happiest when busy with a task. He held many careers to satisfy his varied interests and last worked for DART On Call and taught truck driving at the DMACC Transportation Institute.

Through his work at DMACC, he enjoyed helping the athletes of the Special Olympics by participating in The World's Largest Convoy for Special Olympics.

Ted passed peacefully in his sleep on the evening of Saturday, July 28th 2012. He will be greatly missed by his mother, Dorothy Parry of Des Moines; two sisters, Carolyn Parry Weir and husband Randall Weir of Marshalltown, and Evelyn Parry Drummond and husband Mark Drummond of Spring Valley, CA; three sons, Zac Parry and wife, Saem Parry of West Des Moines, Josh Parry of Des Moines, and Luke Parry and wife Kendra Parry of Granger, IA; and grandchildren, Haley, Alex, Spencer, Greyson, Alexandra, and Logan; as well as his extended family and all his friends at DART and DMACC. He was preceded into eternal life by his father, Harold G. Parry in January 2011.

A funeral service for Ted will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Iles Funeral Homes – Westover Chapel in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends from 11 a.m. on Saturday, until the service hour. Cremation rites will follow services on Saturday. A private committal service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Special Olympics of Iowa Convoy in memory of Ted Parry at 551 SE Dovetail Rd, Grimes, IA 50111.
