Obituary

Tanny Armstrong passed away 10 PM Saturday at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA due to lung cancer. She was the daughter of John and Margie Nicosia, both recently deceased. Tanny was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and lived in Urbandale, Iowa since 1971.

Tanny will be sadly missed by her children, Tannie “Chic” Anderson (Delbert), Betty “Kitty” Aswegan (Gary), Guy Armstrong (Jamie) and Todd Armstrong (Wendy). Tanny’s grandchildren will miss her dearly; they are Jessica and Jackie Anderson, Misti Maul (Dustin), Casey Love, Abby Armstrong (Chuck), and Amanda and Ashley Armstrong. Great-grand-daughter Pixie Miller was precious to Tanny. Other beloved family include brothers Chris “Sonny” Nicosia (Roxanne) and John Nicosia (Kathy), and sister Debbie Armstrong (Jack), also many special nieces, nephews and their children.

Tanny met Jack Merical in 1986, and they were together for 21 years. She loved his children, in-laws and grandchildren as her own, and they loved her as their own, and will miss her dearly as well. Jack passed away March 15, 2005 of cancer.

Tanny graduated from Harding High School in St. Paul, Minnesota and married Richard Armstrong at age 18. She was devoted to her husband and raising her children, was a scout leader and active in the Catholic Church.

Tanny worked 27 years at and retired from the Super-Valu Warehouse. She also volunteered at a nursing home, her church and as a “Big Sister” to children in need. She enjoyed camping, dancing, taking long walks and the ocean. Tanny loved to entertain guests in her home , which was always filled with warmth, laughter and delicious foods and aromas. Her adorable dog and cat, King Tut and Whisper, gave her such laughter and healing.

She touched the heart of everyone she knew. We love you Mom. Thank you Jesus!
