Obituary

Thomas Warren Dickinson, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Clive, Iowa, surrounded by family on October 4, 2024, at the age of 65. Services will be held 11 am Saturday, October 19th at Iles Westover Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Born in Des Moines and raised in Windsor Heights, Tom was the son of Peter and Janice (Runion) Dickinson. He grew up with his siblings, Bob, Priscilla, and Jim, forming lifelong bonds. Tom was passionate about sports, enjoying hockey, baseball, and skiing in Keystone. Summer vacations in Okoboji with family and friends created cherished memories. After graduating from Valley High School, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Kansas, where he developed a love for the Jayhawks and was a proud member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, forming lifelong friendships.

Upon returning to Des Moines, Tom joined his father at Iowa Retail Packaging. He met Deanne Mundall through mutual friends. They married and built a family together, raising two children, Julie and John. Tom dedicated his career to Iowa Retail Packaging, becoming president and CEO, and serving on the Retail Packaging Association board. After retiring in 2019, he found joy working part-time at FedEx alongside his son, John.

A devoted father and husband, Tom was always his children’s biggest supporter, cheering them on in all their endeavors. Known for his warmth and ability to make others feel special, he was also an avid golfer who enjoyed time on the course with friends. A lifelong Kansas Jayhawks fan, he embraced March Madness with enthusiasm—ROCK CHALK! His well-manicured lawn was a point of pride, showcasing his meticulous care in all he did.

Tom is survived by his wife, Deanne Dickinson; his daughter, Julie (Bryce) Sanford; his son, John Dickinson; his mother, Janice Dickinson; his brothers, Bob Dickinson and Jim (Laura) Dickinson; his sister, Priscilla Dickinson Sayeed; in-laws, James (Dana) Mundall and Anne (Michael) Keating; and 12 beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Dickinson, and his brother-in-law, Feisal Sayeed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Prostate Cancer Foundation or The Food Bank of Iowa in Tom’s memory.

The family is grateful for the doctors, nurses and staff at John Stoddard Cancer Center as well as for the many friends that supported him during his trips to Mayo.

Tom’s legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering love will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com.
