Obituary

Vera Kathyrn Gasparovich, 96, left earth for her eternal home on November 9, 2013. While this was a day of sadness for Vera's family and friends on earth, her family and friends in heaven were preparing Vera's welcome party. Vera wanted her family and friends to celebrate her life and joy not mourn her loss, so that is what we shall do.

Vera was born in Melcher, Iowa, on June 30, 1917, to Anton (Tony) and Nancy (Vincenza Matkovich) Gasparovich. Vera graduated from Melcher High School at a time when many girls did not complete high school. Vera looked at every challenge as an opportunity and she taught this can-do attitude to all of her nieces and nephews.

Vera loved the business classes that she was able to take after high school and this love led her into a long career in bookkeeping. Vera worked for Central Asbestos and Supply ("CAS"), an insulation contracting firm, for 25 years. After CAS, Vera worked at Wesley Acres in the bookkeeping department until she was 74.

Vera was lucky to have worked at CAS with her beloved best friend Dorothy ("Til") Hampton. The two of them enjoyed life to its fullest. They made many new friends, loved many dogs, traveled extensively and found humor in every single day.

Vera loved making new friends, helping and encouraging others, gardening, mushroom hunting, trying new foods, exploring, Bunny Tracks ice cream, and spending time with her many friends and family. Her family included many dogs who were lucky enough to have shared Vera's love and care. Her most recent dog companion, Beau, was born to protect Vera and he excelled at his job. If riches can be measured in love, Vera was a very rich lady

Vera was a faithful Catholic all of her life. She was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church. She lived her last several years at Martina Place, where she became a favorite of the other residents and staff.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents (Anton and Nancy Gasparovich); her sisters Helen Gasparovich, Mary Gasparovich , Elizabeth Gasparovich, Josephine (Anna) Adams, Louise Seaman, and Christina Christensen; her brothers Anton, Frank and Victor Gasparovich; her niece Nancy Gasparovich Ronin; her nephew Gerald Anthony Gasparovich; and her best friend of 63 years, Dorothy "Til" Hampton. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her beloved dog companion (Beau) and her nieces Nancy Christensen, Sharon Christensen, Betsy Christensen Mease, Theresa Seaman Aavang, and Helen Adams; nephews Anthony Christensen, Tim Christensen, Gregory Seaman, Joseph Seaman, and Frank Adams; grandnieces and nephews Jessica Christensen Butler, Erica Christensen Ricks, John Marshall Mease, Larissa Christensen, Eric Christensen, Kaitlyn Christensen and Trei Christensen; and several great-grandnephews/nieces.

Vera and her family are very appreciative of the loving and dignified care she received from the staff at both Millpond and then Martina Place, Methodist Hospital and the staff at Taylor House Hospice. Vera especially treasured the many visits that she received from the therapy dogs and their handlers during her last few days on earth. Vera's favorite prayer is; "Dear God, Please make me the person that my dog thinks I am." Vera definitely achieved that gold standard in how she lived her life.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 11, at Westover Funeral Homes where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, November 12, Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa's Catholic Church with burial at Glendale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League, AHeinz 57 Pet Rescue and Transport or Taylor House Hospice. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
