Obituary

Virginia Evelyn Tingle, 91, died Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Madrid Home, Madrid, Iowa.

Virginia was born July 2, 1923 in Ponca, NE, to Emerald and Helen Jacobs. She grew up in Neligh, NE and graduated from Neligh High School in 1941. Virginia attended Chillicothe Business School in Chillicothe, MO then worked as a clerk at the Pentagon for one year. She married Robert Tingle on August 25, 1945. They first lived in Newton, IA, where their two children, Tom and Mary, were born and then returned to Nebraska. They lived in Norfolk, O'Neill and Atkinson, then settled in Kearney, NE. Virginia was the American Red Cross Director for Buffalo County. She spent many years researching family history and traced the Tingle family back to the American Revolution. Virginia and Rob were married 57 years and enjoyed a great companionship until Rob's death in 2003. Virginia was devoted to her family and friends. She was a lover of people, nature, good books, Duke Basketball, Willa Cather, Pavarotti, and cats. She will always be in our hearts.

Virginia is survived by her children, Tom (Colleen) Tingle of Superior, CO and Mary (Lorlin) Barber of Polk City, IA; four grandchildren, Melissa Tingle of Kearney, NE, Kyle (Barbara) Tingle of Arvada, CO, Laura Tingle of Louisville, CO and Owen Barber of Ankeny, IA; and two great granddaughters, Lily and Fiola Tingle of Arvada, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Anton Moore, her three siblings, Joyce Angus, Gerald Moore and Donna Vinci; and her husband, Rob.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2015, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Contributions may be made to the Willa Cather Foundation in Red Cloud, NE.
