Obituary

Virginia Jenni Kirkpatrick died Friday May 27, 2005 after a nine month struggle with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). Ginny showed grace and courage during her illness and deeply appreciated the care she was given. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1 at Saint Augustin's Catholic Church.

The daughter of Betty Heim and Herbert William Jenni, Ginny was born in Des Moines on March 23, 1929, and lived in Dubuque and Chicago before settling in Des Moines. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, she attended Stephen's College. In 1949 she married James Kirkpatrick; they raised four daughters and ended their marriage in 1978. Known for her sense of beauty, style, and humor, Ginny collected art and worked at the Des Moines Art Center for many years. She later worked as a wardrobe consultant at Younkers Department Store. She was a member of the Des Moines Art Center Print Club and Saint Augustin's Catholic Church. Ginny loved the birds and tree at her window and she inspired her children and grandchildren to observe the world. A devoted mother, she enjoyed the company of her family and many dear friends and neighbors.

Ginny is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Elayne Henry; and her friend, D.J. (Jack) Goode. Her survivors include her daughters, Patricia Kirkpatrick (Bart Schneider) of Saint Paul, Kristine Kirkpatrick (Michael Levine) of Des Moines, Joey Kirkpatrick (Flora Mace) of Seattle, and Tracy Kirkpatrick (Catherine Ross) of Seattle; and five grandchildren, Kyra, Adam, and Jacob Levine, and Simone and Anton Schneider.

The family will receive friends and visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Dunn's Funeral Home and a vigil service will follow at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Des Moines Art Center Scholarship Fund or the Blood Center of Iowa.
