Obituary

Virginia Louise Loverink, 69, passed from this life on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, at Meredith Drive Reformed Church in Des Moines of which she was a member. Burial will follow at McDivitt Grove Cemetery in Urbandale.

Virginia was born on April 21, 1940 in Newton, Iowa to Chester and Ruth Helen (Fennema) VanZee. She was a 1958 graduate of Newton High School and a 1962 graduate of Central College in Pella, IA. On July 6, 1962, Virginia married Gene Edwin Loverink. On December 28, 1967, Virginia and Gene adopted a baby boy, naming him David Mark and on April 8, 1975, they adopted a baby girl, naming her Elizabeth Louise.

Virginia loved God and her family dearly. Her devoted faith in God shined in everything she did. She was active as a Sunday School Teacher and Children's Worship Leader. Virginia was a member of the choir, Reformed Church Women's groups and Bible Study groups. She was also a member of Questers and the TTT Women's Society of which Virginia had served as chairman. She enjoyed sewing, needlecrafts, camping, and gardening, especially raising flowers.

Virginia taught kindergarten in Grinnell, IA from 1962-1966 and in Norwalk, IA from 1966-1967. She was formerly employed part-time with the Wakonda Christian Church Pre-School, St. Andrew's Church Pre-School and Farmer in the Dell Pre-School. She also taught piano lessons for many years and was a full-time homemaker.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her beloved husband of 46 years, Gene Loverink of Pleasant Hill; son, David (Patricia) Loverink of Portland, OR; daughter, Elizabeth (David) Gibbs of Omaha, NE; sister, Arlys (Robert) VerDoorn of Pella; one grandson, Skyler Loverink; and several nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, at Iles Funeral Homes – Westover Chapel in Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meredith Drive Reformed Church.
