Vivian (Long) Anderson passed away very peacefully, Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the Madrid Home at the age of 100 years and 95 days. Services will be held 11 am Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Garden Prairie United Church of Christ 2051 - 290th Street Madrid. Visitation will be held Monday, February 7, 2011 5-7 pm at Iles Funeral Homes-Sundberg - Kirkpatrick Chapel.

She was born in Seneca, South Dakota on October 31, 1910 the daughter of John and Daisy (Hutzel) Long, and the great-niece of Laura Luther wife of Clark Luther. She spent most her life in the Luther area and graduated from Luther High School, class of 1928. She was married to Ralph L. Anderson on August 8, 1936 in Boone, Iowa. Ralph served in World War I.

She lived more than 60 years on the site of Belle Point. In 1849 Belle Point was the stage coach stop, hotel and post office before Luther had a post office, and half a mile from where her father was born and grew up.

Vivian was active in the community, volunteered at the Veterans Hospital for 28 years and she was a life long member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Garden Prairie United Church of Christ. She was also a member of the D.A.R., De Shon Chapter.

Vivian is survived by her son, Alan (Nancy) Anderson of Madrid; grandson, Wayne(Angie) Anderson of Altoona; granddaughter, Kelly (Steve) Curvin of Boone; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Brendan Anderson of Altoona, Eric Price of Boone, and Olivia, Abra and Brady Curvin of Boone; along with several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; twin brother, John Vernon; older brother, Leo; sisters, Margaret and Leonas; baby sister, Rachel; and her beloved niece, Pat Miller.
