Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Woodward Cemetery followed by gathering and meal at the Woodward City Park. The family encourages the use of masks and to practice social distancing. Please bring your own lawn chair and RSVP to Tony at t.bryan795@gmail.com by September 22nd if attending.

Wallace Dean Bryan, (Wally), 86 passed away on May 25, 2020, at the Madrid nursing home. Services will be held at a later date yet to be determined.

Dean was born on January 2, 1934, in Ringgold County, Iowa, to Roy and Ruth (Wallace) Bryan. He grew up in Mount Ayr, IA and graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1952. On January 21, 1954, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Carol Werner. To this union was born seven children, Tony, Christopher, Penelope, Terry, Michael, Deanna and Gregory. They had just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in January.

Dean had worked for the Iowa Highway Commission, RB Burch Co, E.M.Duesenberg, and McAninch Corporation. He was an estimator, surveyor, and safety supervisor throughout the years. Some of the projects he worked on were the roads around Rathbun Lake, Saylorville Lake, and I-380 in Cedar Rapids. His career moved his family around the state to the towns of Creston, IA, Moravia, IA, Walcott, IA, Woodward, IA, Cedar Rapids, IA and Huxley, IA.

After retiring in 1997, Dean and Carol spent their time traveling for a couple of years in their RV before settling down in McAllen, TX for the winters and Cutty’s Campground in Grimes, Iowa for the summers. He worked at the gatehouse at Cutty’s campground where everybody knew Wally. When they were done traveling, they settled in Woodward, IA until his health began to fade and that is when he became a resident of the Madrid Nursing Home in Madrid, IA.

Dean was preceded death by his parents Roy and Ruth Bryan, brothers Bill and Howard, son Terry, grandson Kyle and great-granddaughter Skylar.

Survivors include his wife Carol, of 66 years, as well as their children; Tony (Laurie), Chris (Viji), Penny, Mike (Dora), Deanna and Greg (Jessica).

Grandchildren; Eric (Sarah), Brandy (Josh), Troy (Brenna), Megan (Blake), Marc, Tina, Cindy (Shawn), Christopher, Chad, Thomas, Tatiana, Melissa (Tyler), Jeremy, Edward (Danielle), Alisha (Rafael), Amanda (Ryan), Nick, Cassie (Travis), Erin, Shawn (Laura), Danielle, Stephannie, Rosie, Blake (Katie), Clayton (Nicole), Greg (Jazmine), 42 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, three brothers; Ed (Phyllis) of Des Moines, David of Colorado and Stanley of Arkansas.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Madrid Home. We are truly grateful that you treated Dean as one of your own family.
