Obituary

Willard D. Brittin, 87, died at home with his family on Saturday, April 21, 2007. The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn's Chapel. Private burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.

Willard was born on a farm near Sherman, IL in 1919. He graduated from high school in Williamsville, IL before serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He lived in Springfield, IL while employed by the American Berkshire Association for 25 years; 15 years as a field representative and then 10 years as Executive Secretary and Editor of the monthly Berkshire News magazine. During that time he represented the United States Government in Chile and Argentina as a judge in livestock shows.

After moving to Des Moines in 1961 he was General Manager for Holiday Inn South on Gray's Lake for 25 years. He then retired from the hotel and became a representative for Campbell Mattress Company. He loved hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with family, friends and Roxy.

Willard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty; two daughters, Linda (John) Bradford of Fort Myers Florida and Betsy Loffredo of Des Moines; five grandchildren, William (Katherine) Withey, Brit Withey, David Withey, Kate (Jordan) Sable and Sara Loffredo; and two great- grandsons, Jonah and Isaiah Sable. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Helen Brittin; two brothers, Bill and Emmett; and his son, W. Don Brittin, Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made to the John Stoddard Cancer Center or Iowa Health Home Care.
