William H. Latta, 94, died Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the Madrid Home. Memorial services will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Sundberg Kirkpatrick Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

William grew up on the family farm south of Madrid. He had seven siblings. He attended Madrid schools through the 9th grade (skipping 8th grade for academic excellence) when he left school to help on the family farm. He farmed until 1941 when he was drafted into the military. He served four years in the Army Air Corps, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. During those years he served in the European Theater of operations as Line Chief. He was awarded 9 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal.

William was an avid reader, and enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing and gardening.

In June he met Esther Tweedt and they married on October 31, 1945. They had four daughters: Carol (Bill) Woodlund, Christie (Bill) Charo, Claudia (Phil) Hanks, and Cherri (Steve) Simmons; 10 grandchildren: Billy Lee Lopez (Abbie Graham), Carmen Lopez, Bradley Lopez (Tylee Collins), Cale Charo (Julia Raymond), Jolynne (BJ) Carlson, Brook, Brittany and Jacob Hanks, Jared and Eric Simmons; and 9 great grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his parents: William "Vollie" Valentine Latta and Matilda "Tillie" (Swanson) Latta; siblings: Harold Arthur, Milo Leroy, Helen Marie, Edith Irene Sharp, Donald Franklin, Mildred Ethelyn Rockwell, Sarah May Peterson.

Visitation will begin at 3PM Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm.
