Wm. Howard Beswick, 79, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2004, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, February 23, at First United Methodist Church, Des Moines, with burial at Masonic Cemetery, Des Moines.

Howard was born the son of Robert E. and Lillian Klay Beswick on December 21, 1924, in Des Moines. He was a graduate of East High School. On June 16, 1946, Howard married Nondas Zenor in Des Moines. He was employed with Bridgestone/Firestone Co. as an engineer until his retirement, in 1987.

Howard was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club, the Masonic Auburn Union Park Lodge No. 592, and the Order of Knoll at Iowa State University. He was a past scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #68, and a member of Boy Scout Troop #1, a member of the Mayflower Society, the First United Methodist Church and its Men’s Club.

Howard was an avid Cyclone and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, spending time with his family, and especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Howard’s sense of humor will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Nondas Z. Beswick of Windsor Heights; two sons, William H. Beswick Jr. and his wife Judith of Johnston and Mark Z. Beswick and his wife Deborah of Sioux City, IA; six grandchildren, Emily Uhl and her husband Russ, Erika, Brent, Kristina, Annette and Julia Beswick; his sister, Dorothy Weichmann and her husband Daniel of Hubbard, IA; three sisters-in-law, Avonelle Simpson of Jefferson, IA, Mary Lou Beswick of Greeley, IA and Carita Hoffman and her husband John of Horicon, WI; two brothers-in-law, Blaine Zenor and his wife Micki of Colorado Springs, CO and Norman Zenor and his wife Marylou of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Howard was preceded into eternal life by his parents, and his brother, John M. “Jack” Beswick.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be made to either: the First United Methodist Church ~ Endowment Fund, Boy Scouts of America ~ Troop #1, or Wesley Acres Nursing Scholarship Fund.
