Obituary

William “Bill” Krieg, 97, passed away peacefully at his home in Beaverdale Estates on Sunday, October 10, 2021.

Bill was born August 1, 1924, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Mabel (Kaeppler) Krieg and William H. Krieg. He grew up in the Sheboygan area and moved to Des Moines where he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1942.

Bill and Ruth (Lindquist) Krieg were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines on April 4, 1948. The young couple moved to Council Bluffs, IA where they raised their family and Bill worked in sales. Ruth and Bill moved to the Beaverdale area of Des Moines in 1963 where they made their home for the next 50 years. Bill embarked on a second career of nearly three decades in the Iowa Senate, including many years as Sergeant-at-Arms. His service was honored by a Resolution issued by the Iowa Senate for bringing “order and decorum to the floor of the Senate.”

In addition to his family, Bill loved beagles, reading, and the camaraderie of playing sports and games. Bill’s ready sense of humor, curiosity about the world and love of life will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his children Cynthia (Jarard) Killip of Omaha, NE, Diane (Stephen) Osiecki of Vero Beach, FL, William (Laurie Lind) Krieg of Mercer, WI, Mary (Robert) Rasmussen of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jon (Patti McKee) Krieg of Des Moines, brother Jack C. Miller (Linda Flaherty) of Des Moines, sister-in-law Francis Sawhill of Des Moines, daughter-in-law Jean Krieg of Elkhorn, WI; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, six nieces and three nephews.

The family thanks Bill’s friends and the staff of Beaverdale Estates for eight years of friendship and caring.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and their grandson, Daniel Rasmussen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League, the Des Moines Symphony, or a favorite charity. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com. A Celebration of Life will be held in Des Moines in June of 2022
