Obituary

William Robert "Bill" Nelson, 47, died Wednesday, August 10, 2005 while fishing at Lake Red Rock in Marion County, IA. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 13 at Westover Baptist Church in Des Moines. Private committal services will be held at a later date.

Bill was born, the son of Robert Dale and Reidun Evelyn "Rae" (Hanson) Nelson, on January 1, 1958 in Moorhead, MN. He moved to the Des Moines area in the early 1980's. On March 17, 1990, Bill married Audra Ellen Beasley in Charles City, IA. He was employed with Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines for more than 20 years. He was a member of Westover Baptist Church and had recently been attending Urbandale Baptist Church.

Bill will always be remembered for his kind, caring manner towards everyone. Bill was truly a family man, being a devoted father and loving husband. His wife and children were the delight of his life. His quick wit always caught you by surprise. Bill was hard working, earning his master's degree in business leadership from Upper Iowa University while working full-time. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, camping, hunting and especially taking a day off work to go fishing with the kids.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Audra Nelson of Urbandale; his four children, Kaitlyn, Caleb, Jennifer and Grace all at home; his parents, Robert and Rae Nelson of Grand Rapids, MI; one sister, Bobbie Billing and her husband, Mark of Grand Rapids; one brother, Bruce Nelson of Des Moines; his mother in-law, Nancy Turnage and her husband, Fred of Augusta, KS; one brother-in-law, Todd Beasley of Riverton, WY; three nieces, Bethanie Billing, Emily Billing and Danielle Beasley; one nephew, C.J. Billing; and a host of friends and co-workers. Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother-in-law, Alice Beasley.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, at Westover Baptist Church, where the family will greet friends. The family has respectfully requested that any memorials be made to their children's education fund. Cards of condolences may be offered to the family by sending them to: Westover Funeral Home, c/o The Bill Nelson Family; 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA 50322.
