William Stephen Fox, 80, passed away February 9, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Bill was born on March 9, 1930, to Nicholas and Emma (Degler) Fox. He was baptized at Tabor Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, PA. Upon moving to Des Moines, Bill attended Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. He was very active both in the church work and the school. When Loving Arm Children's Center and Messiah Lutheran Church was begun, Bill was involved in the planning and became a member of Messiah. He was united in marriage on February 23, 1952, to Ann McPeters. Bill was in the US Navy and served in the Korean War from 1950 - 1954.

Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann, his children, Michael (Cindy) Fox of Des Moines, Deborah (Rick) Gladson of Des Moines, Donna (Dan) Gibbons of West Des Moines and Nancy (Mark) Wagner of Kansas City, KS; twelve grandchildren, Jennifer, Kari, Jason, Jenny, Jesse, Joyln, Jamie, Amanda, Samantha, Sierra, Courteney and Brooke; five great-grandchildren, Shaylee, Leyden, Rae Rae, Curnie and Caleb; and his brother, Robert Fox of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, William, Jr. and grandson, Matthew.

Bill had a big love for watching his grandson Jamie play soccer and watching Rick race his car. He was a Cub Scout leader and Boy Scout leader for many years in Philadelphia, PA. He retired from Miller the Driller when he was 70 years old, and then worked part time at Holm's Radiator, CAC ACCO, and Loving Arms Children's Center/Messiah Lutheran Church. He was referred to as "Mr. Bill" by all the children at the child care.

The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday, February 11, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 6270 Merle Hay Rd., Johnston. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The body has been cremated and burial will be in the Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, New Jersey later this spring.

Bill's family would like to thank Dr. Jose Angel and his staff at Mercy West Lakes, downtown Mercy and Mercy Hospice in Johnston for their continuous care and concern for Bill.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family for a memorial to be directed later.
