William George Obituary

Our Dad, William S. George (born 1/24/1934), went to Heaven 9/5/2024. We think. He was rather ornery, so, not sure God wanted him. If you know us, you know what we mean. And yes, he did approve of this obituary prior to losing his marbles.

Bill retired at the age of 62 (no wonder he never had money!), after being an underwriter for 36 years. He belonged to many clubs, including Kiwanis, Blue Goose, and others we don’t recall. Bill also volunteered at elementary schools helping children learn to read (shocking, we know). He also drove cancer patients to appointments, donated gallons of his 0- blood for over 30 years. Bill was always going out to breakfast and lunch with the Exhausted Roosters. Golfing was a sport he kept toying with, but his clubs usually ended up in a pond. He attended as many sporting events for his grandchildren as he could. And he drove our mom nuts!

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Wilda and Stewart George (ages ago), brother Bob George, and our beloved Mother, his wife, Harriet E. George, two years ago. We are still sad she went first.

Left to celebrate his passing are children, Liz George, Sue George, Thomas (Marsha) George, Kathy George Tomaszewski (Ron). Grandchildren, Ryan (Alyssa) George, Jerica George Skluzacek (Cole), Tori Tomaszewski Arnold (Dan), Bria Tomaszewski, and Harriet M. George. Great-grandchildren Waylon and Caleb Arnold, and Addy and Paxon George.

Since we already paid for the visitation, it will be on Monday, September 23rd, 2024, from 5pm-7pm, at Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA, 50322. If for some reason you want to leave a memorial, make it payable to Children and Families of Iowa’s Domestic Violence Center or bring cash…we will use it wisely??

A huge thank you to Calvin Community staff for putting up with our dad all these years. All of you are amazing!
