Wilma Weston Maddy, 97, of Des Moines departed this life on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. A memorial service is planned for spring.

Wilma was born April 22, 1917, in Audubon County, to Albert and Arvilla Weston. She attended country schools and graduated from Audubon High School in 1934. She attended Iowa State College where she studied home economics and worked in the botany department. She also typed reports for other college students, including a travel course report for her future husband, John Kutz Maddy, whom she married January 3, 1942.

During WWII, Wilma worked in the Office of Army Camp Post Exchanges and later for the Secretary of the City Clerk in Ames when John was overseas. In later years she worked for several churches, insurance and architectural companies.

Her passions were poetry, bible study, and healing prayer. She was a member of the Des Moines Lapidary Society, the Iowa Genealogy Society, Camp Farthest Out, The Order of St. Luke and Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Those remaining to honor her memory are a sister, Helen Sampson, Carroll; three children, John W. Maddy, Corvallis, OR, Marilyn M. Kohler, Seattle, WA, and Marshall W. Maddy, Columbia, SC; two grandchildren, Krista Jones and Paul Kohler and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Weston and her husband, John.
